Ventricular System of the Brain and the Ventricles

The ventricular system of the brain consists of four chambers in the parenchyma (qv): two paired lateral ventricles in the cerebral hemispheres, a single midline chamber called the third ventricle into which the lateral ventricles drain via the foramina of Monro, and a fourth ventricle between the brainstem and the cerebellum connected to the third ventricle by a structure called the aqueduct. The lateral ventricles contain the choroid plexus which secretes CSF.
