Optic Canal

A cylindrical canal at the apex of the orbit running obliquely between the cranium and the orbit through the lesser wing of sphenoid bone near its base, where it joins the body of sphenoid. The optic canal transmits the optic nerve (qv) and ophthalmic artery (qv). CSF is present on the cranial side of the optic canal, but not the orbital side
